Iman N. Milner
Hometown:

Occupation:
Actress. Writer. Founder of EDGE Magazine.
What are some of your aspirations?
My top aspiration is to at all times be inspiring women who look like me and may have had similar experiences through my artistry. Other than that…I want to be creating at my highest level as much as possible for as long as possible.
What inspires you creatively?
Seeing other artists do groundbreaking work. Every time someone does something amazing, I am inspired to match it. Love, whether it’s the lack thereof or the presence of, inspires me.
How do you define success?
Through the people who are touched by what I do. Success is so relative. Would it be nice to make millions? Of course. But I don’t think that’s success necessarily. Anyone can make money but can you change someone? Can you inspire someone to dig deeper and unveil a better part of themselves? Have you persevered? Have you done something to the best of your ability and seen it through to the end? I think those are better measures of success. I’d have to be able to answer those questions positively in order to feel on any level that I have succeeded.
And when my mother doesn’t have to work anymore. The day I can take care of my mother…I’ll feel accomplished.
What is a guilty pleasure of yours (food, music, etc.)?
YouTube videos! I love to laugh so I can spend countless hours on YouTube watching people be ridiculous, talented, etc…
And chocolate. Bad day? Chocolate. Good day? Chocolate. My birthday, Jesus’ Birthday…? Chocolate.
No matter your mood, what song always makes you happy?
Any Michael Jackson song. And “Back and Forth” by Aaliyah. When that beat drops, I’m rocking.
If you could play out the part of any movie, what scene would it be?
As an actress: I would love to play the scene between Sonny, Michael and Tom Hagen in “Godfather”. I think that scene is written masterfully. As a person- I’m a sucker for a good rom com so the scene between Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in the Notebook…when they’re reunited…that would be awesome! Or any scene from Love Jones. Amen.
Do you have a celebrity crush?  If so, who?
Anyone who follows me on Twitter knows my infactuation with Michael Ealy is real. My biggest crush is Nasir Jones though. He’s intelligent and handsome. He loves OUR culture and we share a birthday so I feel like we’d get each other. He’s my prototype.
What is your biggest pet peeve?
People who are afraid to fail to the point that they can’t succeed. I HATE burps. The word “hater”…I hope it stayed in 2012 with ratchet, Mitt Romney and ombre weaves.
What’s the best way to approach you?
With sincerity. Be upfront about what you want and it could save both of us some valuable time.
In one word, how should a man make a woman feel?
Adored.
What do you like to see guys wearing?
Anything that he feels confident in but a well-tailored suit? Listen…yes!
What keeps you interested/engaged in a man?
Passion, intelligence and honesty. If I can sense the passion behind the actions he takes in his life and he can hold a good, honest conversation…he can have my heart. Also…respect. I have to see that he respects not only the people closest to him but everyone he comes in contact with. I think no one shows that better than our President. He’s always kind and genuine and has a true heart for and understanding of the impact his words/actions have on everyone he meets. I think that’s dope.
What’s your take on the opposite sex being “just” friends?  Is it possible?
As a single woman, I say “yes”. That may change when I’m in a committed relationship or betrothed. I do think that at the beginning of any relationship between a man and a woman (if both parties are indeed interested in the opposite sex) someone will be attracted to someone. It’s in our nature. Later on down the line both parties may agree that they’re better off as friends only after an awkward attempt at something more.
When do you feel most sexy?
When my eyebrows are freshly done, my hair is laid and I’m in my favorite sweats after a long shower. A close second is having a man I’m in love with look me in my eyes and kiss me…that’s amazing.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
As the topic of conversation during long car rides home after seeing a great film or watching an award show or reading an amazing magazine article. I also see myself happy…and with that accomplished feeling I mentioned before. Maybe married. Maybe a mother. But definitely happy, successful and inspirational.
What’s one thing you have overcome and how did you do it?
The death of my father when I was 16 years old was a devastating blow for me. It was unexpected and came right before a very crucial time in my life. I overcame that through prayer and giving everything I had to my goal of becoming a trained actress. It’s something that I still feel deep in my heart but God has been so faithful in restoring my happiness and helping me to cherish the lessons, memories and motivation my father passed down to me.
Moving and getting adjusted to LA has been a crazy, long road as well but again…focus and faith.
What’s one thing about you that is often time misunderstood?
My intentions. My heart is always in the right place even when I’m saying something to someone that they may not want to hear. I always have the best interest of those close to me at heart. Also, my strength. Because I have pretty much depended on myself since I was 16, I can often times retreat when I’m going through things and block out the people who are close to me. My strength can sometimes make people feel unnecessary in my life.
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Loyal, dynamic, empathetic.
Just by looking at you, what’s something we would never guess?
I’m a reserve for the Los Angeles Lakers.
How do you want to be remembered?
As a woman who gave everything she had to everything and everyone she loved. I use the word “inspiration” a lot because I really believe in the power we all have to inspire others through our own lives. I just want people to say that I gave 150% every time I showed up.
